つながるワイヤレス通信機器の開発手法（3） ――概要設計を行う
BluetoothはワイヤレスLANと携帯電話の中間に位置している．アプリケーションは用意しないが，さまざまなアプリケーションに必要なインターフェースをアプリケーション・インターフェースとして標準化している．この部分をBluetoothでは"プロファイル（Profile）"と呼ぶ．表1は最近制定された"New Profile"と呼ばれる規格である．この表からわかるように，Bluetoothの場合はプリンタ，ISDN，AV（audio video）など各種アプリケーションに対してインターフェースを規格化している．これには，Bluetoothをさまざまなアプリケーションに広めていこうというBluetooth SIG（Special Interest Group）の意気込みが感じられる．
なにはともあれ，早く無線を意識せずに便利に電子機器が使えるようになってほしいものだ．
